HNTB

Date: February 25, Monday

Time: 5:30 P.M.

Steve Hague will present on the engineering aspects of the reconstruction of major infrastructure projects in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  His focus will be on the design-build reconstruction of US 90 over St. Louis Bay between Bay St. Louis and Gulfport, Mississippi.  This 2-mile long bridge was completely reconstructed on a parallel alignment with two lanes of traffic in just 20 months following the storm.

Mr. Hague, who holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, is an associate vice president at HNTB.  He is currently assigned as the Chief Structural Engineer for HNTB's long-span and specialty bridge design group.  For the last 15 years he has specialized in major river crossings around the country.  Recently he has been assigned as the lead designer and project manager for a number of complex bridges including the new US 82 Bridge at Greenville, Mississippi, erection engineering for the widening for the Huey P. Long rail bridge in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Main Street Bridge over the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio.  Mr. Hague is a licensed Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in 13 states including Texas. L.A. Fuess Partners, Inc.

Time: 5:30 P.M.

International Terminal D at DFW Airport is a state-of-the-art facility opened in 2005, housing 23 aircraft gates, around 1.75 million square feet of terminal and support space on 5 levels, and an integrated 8-story Hyatt Grand Regency Hotel.  The facility is served by an 8-level parking garage holding 8,200 cars with air-conditioned walkways.

Terminal D is connected to the other airport terminals at DFW Airport by an overhead Automated People Mover system and a pedestrian bridge.

L.A. Fuess Partners served as the lead structural engineer for the project, encompassing the new terminal building, parking garage, and sky bridge with a combined cost of over $900m. Click here so see the flyer.

 

ExxonMobil

Dr. Robert E. Sandström and Dr. Adam J. Rinehart will cover some of the special work at ExxonMobil that enabled their engineers to establish the technology necessary to confidently build larger LNG ships and reduce the cost of long distance transport.

This discussion should be of interest to those pursuing studies in ship design, structures, hydrodynamics, basic physics, and experimental methods.
